Anthurium “Dark Mama” (papillilaminum x warocqueanum) is a remake of a beautiful, very desirable classic John Banta hybrid that I developed in Guatemala in 2003. Both parents are now well-known by US rare aroid collectors and the stunning seed parent (the ‘Fort Sherman’ clone) continues to be comparatively rare in the market. It is a very deliberate low climber that should not get too tall and can be trained on a short totem. The addition of A. warocqueanum to the cross has increased the leaf size quite a bit and enhanced the velvety aspect of them. Largest leaves that I have seen on this cross to about 3’/90 cm. After three decades in cultivation, his hybrid has proven to be of easy pot culture for growers with space and conditions to grow it to adult size. A fantastic ornamental aroid with great potential for growers working with public exhibits and tropical-themed vertical gardens.
